It Might be Time to Get a 3D Television!

If you saw Avatar in 3D, and can’t get enough of those effects, it might be time to consider grabbing an HDTV that is capable of displaying things in 3D.

This morning I got an e-mail from Best Buy telling me they now have two Samsung HDTV models that are “3D-Ready”.

What does “3D-Ready” really mean? Well there are a few things you have to remember here. These TVs will not turn everything you watch into a 3D experience; your old DVDs, TV channels, and home movies will still be is plain old 2D.

In order to take advantage of the 3D capabilities, you will also need to pick up some 3D Glasses (or grab some from the theatre!) and have some content that is actually produced as 3D. Right now there really is not much out there, but when Avatar and other 3D movies are released on Blu-ray, there will likely be 3D versions for sale as well.

James Cameron, creator of Avatar and champion of 3D, had this to say on 3D content:

“We’ve demonstrated that the 3D market is an extremely lucrative market and this is not a fad, this is not something that is going to go away. It’s going to be interesting because (3D) TVs are going to change things yet again. But the TVs are going to take awhile to catch up with the marketplace because there isn’t enough content.“

Satellite companies such as Sky have announced that they will be releasing 3D television channels this Summer, which will work on existing HD set-top boxes and come at no additional charge.

Now how much is one of these 3D HDTVs going to set you back? Here are a few of them that Gazaro is tracking:

Samsung 55″ 1080p 240Hz 3D-Ready LED HDTV

In the US, Amazon.com has the best price for this one at $2967.00.

In Canada, Best Buy has this one for $3699.99.

Samsung 46″ 1080p 240Hz 3D-Ready LED HDTV

In the US, Amazon.com has a good price at $2337.00, though Gazaro also lists a few slightly cheaper prices from other retailers on that same page.

In Canada, both Best Buy and Future Shop are selling this one for $2,899.99.

So should you get one?

Is it a good time to bring the 3D experience to your home theatre? It really comes down to you. If you are the type of person who has to have the latest and greatest technologies out there, now might be a good time to grab a 3D HDTV! If you aren’t, it might be better to wait for a better deal. Find Deals on Heartbeats by Lady Gaga

Headphones endorsed by famous people! They seem to be incredibly popular right now – as well as incredibly expensive. But don’t fear, you might still be able to afford the Beats by Dr. Dre or Heartbeats by Lady Gaga that you have always desired.

These premium headphones, made by Monster, carry a hefty $120 price tag when purchased at regular prices. Luckily there are deals out there that can save you up to $50 off the full price! Using Gazaro I searched for “Lady Gaga” and found a number of retailers selling the Heartbeats for a lot less than the regular price.

If you want the current best price, check out B&H who have the Heartbeats by Lady Gaga for just $69.95.

And if you aren’t concerned with getting brand new headphones, they also have them used for only $60.95!

Another good price that Gazaro has found on these is from Amazon who are currently selling the Heartbeats by Lady Gaga for just $83.21. A good price, though in February they were a couple bucks cheaper at $80.29.

Looking at the price trending chart for Amazon, these prices seem fair, and are certainly better than the official price of $120 and the $99 price that most retailers seem to have lowered to. Amazon’s prices tend to fluctuate a lot, as you can see in the chart below, so it can be tough to know when to buy. Looking at this chart, I wouldn’t expect to see a significantly better deal from them – though you may be able to save an extra dollar or two if you watch closely over the next few days.

If you are planning on getting the Heartbeats by Lady Gaga, now is a okay time to get a deal. If you think you can hold out for a while longer, it might be smart to wait for an even better deal. Check back frequently on Gazaro.com, or grab our iPhone app, to know when there is a better deal!

Top Three Websites for Coupon Codes

Our post last week highlighted how you can increase your savings by finding a coupon code to go along with the great deals Gazaro finds. This post will highlight three great websites for finding those pesky coupon codes.

1 – RetailMeNot

Online coupon codes are everywhere on RetailMeNot. In addition to offering online coupon codes, they provide sections of Printable Coupons and Grocery Coupons. The website’s homepage displays two lists, “Popular Stores” and “Today’s Top Coupons”.

RetailMeNot groups the coupon codes by store, with their database of stores searchable from the main page. When viewing all of the coupon codes for a particular store they are lumped into two sections, “Active Coupons” and “Unreliable Coupons” – as determined by users when they answer the question “Did this coupon work for you?” after they have tried one.

The main website, built by an Australian company, caters to a US audience – however they have localized versions for Canada, UK, Germany, Australia, and more.

2 – Coupon Cabin

Coupon Cabin is similar to RetailMeNot, however slightly harder to use. The homepage lists what it considers “Verified Coupons and Deals” and also links to “Featured Stores”. The website allows user submitted coupon codes, however it appears that most featured stores don’t allow users to submit for their store.

On the user submitted coupon codes, Coupon Cabin allows other users to click a check mark or x for whether the deals worked or not. They also encourage users to share deals on Facebook and Twitter – so a search on Twitter for their hashtag #cpncbn might reveal some of their best coupon codes.

Where Coupon Cabin beats RetailMeNot is mobile access. Just like how Gazaro has the Gazaro Deals iPhone app, they have an iPhone app of their own providing access to their vast database of savings. Though both sites lack a mobile-optimized version for all other mobile device users.

3 – Coupon Chief

Coupon Chief is the easiest to use of the three sites, thanks to its clean design that avoids the information overload of the other two sites. The homepage lists the “Popular Coupons”, three “Featured Stores”, and further down they have their “New Coupons”.

These guys really push the idea of users submitting coupon codes, the second tab of their navigation is titled “Pays-2-Share”. Their pitch is simple, submit coupons to the site and every time someone uses them you get 2% of the sale price – paid to you by PayPal or cheque. Basing the reward to a user on commission of coupon code use is good because it only encourages the submission of quality coupon codes, rather than questionable/incorrect ones. On the side they list the top contributors of the week and one user has submitted over 800 codes while four other users are at around 300, showing that they are getting a lot of coupons sent in!

Coupon Chief provides similar features to the other sites, including voting on the validity of coupon codes, viewing all the codes for a given store, and easy sharing with your friends.

Conclusion

The winner? I have to give it to Coupon Chief, simply because it is easier to find and redeem the coupons listed.

Using coupon codes is one way to find a better deal, and using them in conjunction with Gazaro is an even better way. When you have found a great deal on Gazaro, remember to have a look for a good coupon code to go with it. Even if it is just free shipping, it all adds up to save you a lot of money!

David Spark Explains Gazaro on the Radio

David Spark, a technology journalist from San Francisco, was on 910AM KNEW radio talking with Rob Black about technology, apps, and saving money. He is a big fan of Gazaro, and when Rob asked him what a good tool to track deals was – Gazaro was his suggestion!

David: For electronics specifically, there is a great service called Gazaro.

David also published a blog post to go along with this interview. In the post he outlines some great ideas of how to save money. His best advice was simple, ask people! He recent purchased an HP Computer and tweeted about the deal he got on it with a coupon code for HP’s online store. One of his followers on Twitter replied to him with an even better coupon code, allowing him to quickly cancel his first order and reorder with a coupon for $350 off, instead of the $200 off coupon that he had. Just like David, we love Twitter too – so be sure to follow him on there @dspark and Gazaro @Gazaro.

His blog post also touched on a number of ideas, including price protection, social buying, and using mobile applications to save money on purchases. Mobile apps are something we are quite familiar with and can really be a big money saver when you are in a store. If you have a smart phone you can load up Gazaro in the browser or iPhone users can grab our iPhone app Gazaro Deals to see if the store’s price is really the best one.

Ottawa Business Journal names Gazaro a “Startup to Watch”

Save More with Gazaro and Coupon Codes

Gazaro can help you find all of the best deals, but there are also ways to save even more. One way is using online coupon codes. Where can you find coupon codes? Here are two examples.

When browsing the website of electronics retailer Abt, I saw this on their page near the bottom of the page:

You can get a 5% off coupon, just for signing up for the Abt newsletter! This was good news because I was about to buy this cool Sony 9″ Portable DVD Player (it’s red!) for $155. With 5% off of the already 18% off discount Gazaro found, this new DVD Player is now even more affordable – only $147.25 (23% off!).

Another way to find an online coupon codes would be to search Twitter or Google. I was thinking about picking up this LG 47″ LCD HDTV for $1,000 from NewEgg. Before checking out, I loaded up Twitter and searched for “NewEgg coupon code” and up popped a number of tweets mentioning the code “MEMKBOUFEB10″ for 10% off. This amazing 41% off deal that Gazaro found just became 51% off – for a savings of $800!

Coupon codes are often issued by retailers for a limited time only – so make sure you check the expiry date on them if you can find one. Another thing to watch out for is whether the code can be used only once per person, one time only, and as many times until expiry. There are a number of great websites that aggregate user submitted coupons, but the most efficient way to find them is by searching on Google or Twitter for “(store name) coupon code”. Keep an eye out for these codes, a common one is a coupon for Free Shipping.

Using Gazaro and coupons you can save even more on those big purchases. Make sure to check back on Gazaro regularly to keep an eye on the latest deals and subscribe to the blog for some more money saving tips!

The Super Bowl and HDTV Prices

Every year as the Super Bowl approaches, your TV begins to feel a little bit inadequate. But don’t worry – there are many great deals out there to quickly upgrade to that new 60-inch LCD HDTV you have always wanted.

But if you let this big purchase slip your mind until right before the Super Bowl, you may end up paying a lot more than you should. Gazaro has spotted a trend of retailers pricing HDTVs significantly higher on game day (in some instances during the whole week leading up to the game). Check out these four HDTVs we have been tracking:
