The Super Bowl and HDTV Prices

Every year as the Super Bowl approaches, your TV begins to feel a little bit inadequate. But don’t worry – there are many great deals out there to quickly upgrade to that new 60-inch LCD HDTV you have always wanted.

But if you let this big purchase slip your mind until right before the Super Bowl, you may end up paying a lot more than you should. Gazaro has spotted a trend of retailers pricing HDTVs significantly higher on game day (in some instances during the whole week leading up to the game). Check out these four HDTVs we have been tracking:

SAMSUNG 40″ LED Backlight LCD HDTV$800 more on Super Bowl Day

Sony BRAVIA W Series 46″ LCD HDTV$340 more on Super Bowl Day

LG 52″ LCD HDTV$700 more on Super Bowl day (and week leading up to it)

Sony 65″ BRAVIA W Series LCD HDTV$500 more on Super Bowl day

While this obviously doesn’t apply to every television and store during this period of time, it does reveal that you need to be careful when making such a big purchase. Sometimes it pays to wait in order to get the best price on televisions, especially after the big demand around sporting events. Researching deals on Gazaro can reveal whether the “big sales” that retailers are promoting are really sales at all.

Next year when Super Bowl XLV is approaching, make sure you swing by Gazaro’s television category to find where the real deals are!

I'll have to begin purchasing major items during time periods where there are not any large sporting events. I guess the 2010 Winter Olympics are pushing the prices of flat screens yet again.

Thank you for pointing out this flat screen pricing phenomenon.
